The Interview Question

"Liam, in a company where competition between departments is fierce, do you have any ideas to foster collaboration?"

Evaluation Criteria

"We are evaluating for a positive attitude towards driving inter-departmental collaboration," added Mr. Chen from HR, pen ready in hand.

Liam nodded, his mind already flipping through his experiences. "Indeed, I believe that while competition can drive excellence, it’s collaboration that truly harnesses a team’s potential. One idea would be to initiate a ‘Synergy Week’ where members from different departments are mixed into teams to solve a mock project challenge..."

Ms. Rivera raised an eyebrow. "Interesting. How would you ensure the competitive spirit doesn't overshadow the collaborative goal?"

"That’s where setting clear guidelines and objectives comes in," Liam replied with confidence. "The focus would be on how each department's expertise contributes to the bigger picture, highlighting the value of working together rather than in isolation."

As the interview came to a close, Liam felt a spark of excitement. His idea was well-received, and he had conveyed his vision for a more united workplace.
